Today, I'm going to talk about the Banning punishments in school in Korea. When I heard the law first time, I was shocked. When I was a teenager, people said teacher's authority is decreasing in comparison with my parents generation. However when I did bad action, I got punishments even physical punishments from my teachers! It was like getting the cane on my palms 5 times or raising my hands for a long time or running in the playground! It was hard and I really hated the punishments so I tried to do the good job in all things to avoid the punishments in the school. There always are some disorderly students in a classroom. They are unwelcome guests for us and for teachers, too. If they doing something disorderly too much, they ransfered to another school,also.. However, what happened in Korea now, what is the banning entire punishment law?
Now, teacher cannot hit student of coursely, and cannot give them penalties like raising hands. Then how can they coach their students? There is a penalty point system. I don't know what points are the full points, but if their points are exceed the limit, they should be expelled from school. It means they cannot come to the school again. If so, can teachers give them some panalty points and take them out of school? They may not do it well, because they will think they ruin the students life or they are afraid of their revenge. Therefore, we can see the news about students dont' listen teacher's teaching, teased their teachers even hit their teacher!! I could not imagine the scene ever.
Students don't respet their teachers and teachers gave up coaching them. Student became a king of the school. Is is the right way? I think we need at least indirect punishments for self-reflectioning and establishing educational authority..
In the past, the job of teacher was the most respected job and stable job. However now, they are just the tired nanny of the 30 disorderly students.
+Erika, I will late for the class about 15minutes on Monday..
Because the day is the register day for autumn courses (for freshmen & seniors!)
Sorry!! Maybe some students will late like me..
You're right. These days Korean teachers are very tired. They can't touch their students, even if they are hit by their students. Government should hurry to make the law to correct this.
답글삭제When I was middle and high school student I was hit by teachers when my exam scores go down, nail is not short,I late to school, don't finish homework, and many other sorts of reasons.
답글삭제In that time,I feel that l' m like an animals! I don't understand why I was hit by teachers.
Instead of hitting, there they could do many other ways
I still hate that punishments.
But Teacher's autholity is important! Government and school have to make alternative punishment ways. 'penalty point system' looks good!
Wow. This is such a tough issue. My initial reaction is that children should NEVER be hit for any reason; it's a violation of their human rights. However, as I have looked into the issue a bit more, it seems as though many students who experienced such a system support that kind of behavior correction method. In addition, I agree that teaching K-12 often is nannying, as you mentioned, Hailie. This must change. Students are not and cannot be the authority in the classroom. I have taught middle school, high school, and university, and I have to admit that the main reason I enjoy teaching adults is because I don't have to deal with all of the ridiculous behavior problems in public K-12 schools. For me, teaching is about teaching and opening students to new ideas... not figuring out how to force them to behave. Unfortunately, that is the biggest problem most teachers face today. It needs to change.
답글삭제*Thanks for letting me know about registration on Monday. Please come as soon as you can because we will be editing your work. Good luck getting the classes you want! :)
답글삭제I oppose to the regulation which tell teachers not to punish physically. Some bad students should receive punishment. If they didn't have any punishment, they would think the bad behavior they did will be altight and have not matter about doing again because they are young so, they can not distinfuish right from wrong.
답글삭제I commuted men highschool so we are punished very very much. Teachers kicked us, swing us with bat..so on
답글삭제Above thing is so severe thing but
I think some degree of punishment is needed.
